NARS Audacious Lipstick in Janet

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Janet

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Janet

I am a lipstick junkie and when NARS released their new audacious line I had to give it a try. I went for the color Janet, which is a deep magenta since I wanted a color I would wear often and this was similar to Mac Rebel which is my second most worn Mac color. I have worn this over the past few months, I can say it is my favorite lipstick formula and one I want to get more of at some point.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Janet

Let's break it down.

The formula is my favorite out of all the lipsticks I've tried. It feel like a velvety-cream on your lips, it doesn't settle in to the lines on my lips and it wears for hours before fading (we're taking six to seven hours for me), and it is opaque so you don't need to build layers. I find that most long wearing lip colors aren't the most comfortable to wear, but the audacious formula feels like soft and cream-like on the lips. I don't find this formula hydrating, but I also don't find it drying.

The packaging is stunning, like most of NARS' packaging. The tube is square shaped, demi-matte shine with the NARS logo wrapping around it. The packaging is also magnetic, which is great so if you throw it in your bag you won't lose the cap. Overall, I love sleek, dark packaging, so this is one of my favorites to look at.

The color Janet is gorgeous if you are into magenta-berry colors. This color is a blue based deep magenta. It is more pink and opaque than Mac Rebel or Urban Decay Venom and more purple than OCC Pretty Boy and lighter than OCC Strumpet. I think this color would be suited for most skin tones that are on the neutral to cool side. The finish is a demi-matte that has almost a subtle blue duo-chrome in some lights. There are forty shades in the Audacious line, so if Janet doesn't suit your fancy, I am sure you could find a shade you enjoy.

They are pretty pricey, at $32 a lipstick.  They are 4.2g, so the amount is pretty generous for a tube of lipstick. Considering wear time and opacity, meaning that less applied over time so it's not an unfair price, but still a splurge for me.

Overall I really like NARS Audacious lipstick in Janet and I plan to get more of the audacious line when I want to splurge on a super nice lipstick.

Have your tried the NARS Audacious lipsticks? What's your favorite lipstick formula? Let me know in the comments!

Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial

Today I'll be sharing how to create this burgundy and gold eyeshadow tutorial. It's pretty easy to apply and is a fun color combination to wear!

Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial

Prime your eyes and add a base shadow. I am using Mac Painterly Paint Pot and Mac Blanc Type.

Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial
Add some depth with Makeup Geek Barcelona Beach (matte, medium taupe) to the crease, then blendupwards once you have less product on your brush. I also run a touch on the outer corner of my lower lash line. I used a Sigma E38 Diffused Crease to apply and blend.
Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial
Next apply Makeup Geek Bitten (matte, burgundy red) all over the lid. I am using a Mac 242 to apply with a patting motion.
Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial
Now start blending the Bitten shadow up into the crease. I use small circles to blend and a Sigma 25 Blending brush.
Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial

Here's another photo so you can see the shape I blended. I blended it upwards and just over the crease so it is still visible when my eyes are open.

Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial
Now apply some Makeup Geek Fortune Teller (metalic, yellow gold) all along the lower lash line. I use a Sigma E30 Pencil to apply.
Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial

Add some liner and add a wing if you feel like it. I went for winged eyeliner and I used the Kat Von D Trooper liner. I also added a highlight to the inner corner in this step.

Burgundy and Gold Eyeshadow Tutorial

Add some mascara and lashes if you want and you've completed the look. I am wearing Velour Lashes in You Complete Me

I hope you liked this look. It's a nice way to get some cranberry colors into the warmer months and it's a fun contrast to wear. Let me know if you're going to try this out in the comments below and what you'd like to see next!

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

I wanted to do a really easy to recreate look that has some color in it. I thought that a minty eyeshadow with brown liner and lashes would be nice, so I created this look. If you'd like to see how  I created it, then just keep scrolling!

Disclosure: This tutorial is not sponsored, some products are PR samples, and some links below are affiliate links.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

Start out by priming  your eye lids and adding a base shadow. I am using NARS Smudge Proof primer and Mac Blanc (matte, light cream) type eyeshadow.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

To add some depth to the eye and  bit of a transition. I am using a Sigma E25 with Makeup Geek Barcelona (satin, ash light tan) and running it in the crease and blending upwards and a long the lower lash line.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

To add more depth add Makeup Geek Dirty Martini to the crease with a Hakuhodo J142.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

Now to add some color! Add Makeup Geek Foiled Shadow in Fantasy (metallic, mint green) all over the lid and a bit on the tear duct area. I use a clean finger to apply to the lid and a pencil brush for the tear duct area.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

For a bit of a highlight add Mac Mylar (satin, off white) to the inner corner and the brow bone. I use a Mac 239 for this step.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

Add a inner corner highlight. I am using Mac Shroom (pearl, warm off white) on a Mac 239.

Fresh Mint Green Eyeshadow Tutorial

Add some brown liner, mascara and lashes! I am using NARS Larger than Life liner in Via De'Martelli and Elegant Lashes in 044 in the color brown.

I hope you enjoyed this easy, fresh mint green eyeshadow tutorial! Let me know what tutorials you'd like to see next in the comments below!

Orange and Copper Halo Eyeshadow Tutorial

TutorialRebecca Shores1 Comment

Orange and Copper Halo Eyeshadow Tutorial

This is one of my favorite color combinations to wear and also one of my favorite styles. Orange eyeshadows look great on blue eyes since orange is the complementary color to blue. This orange and copper halo eyeshadow tutorial will flatter blue eyes the most but will look nice on other eye colors, as well. (Check out my Champagne and Purple Halo Eyeshadow Tutorial if you want something perfect for green eyes or you just don't do orange.)

Disclosure: Some links below are affiliate links, some products were sent to me.

Start out by priming your eyes. I am using Mac Painterly Paint Pot today.

Add a base shadow which will help us blend out shadows later on. Choose an eyeshadow that is close to your skin tone and matte. I am using Mac Blanc Type (matte, off white) on a Sigma Large Fluff.

Now add a transition eyeshadow. This will give a nice transition between your skin and the colored shadows. I am using Mac Wedge (matte, neutral light brown) on a Hakuhodo J5522 and applying it from the crease, blending towards the brow and along the lower lash line.

Take Mac Red Brick (matte, red-copper) and start applying it to the outer quarter of the eyelid. I use a Hakuhodo J142 to apply and I apply it as a slight v shape.

Now we're going to repeat that color on the inner corner and also taking it along the outer quarters of the lower lash line. I use a Sigma E30 Pencil Brush to apply.

With the same pencil brush add a touch of Mac Brown Script (matte, burnt orange) to the very outer v.

Orange and Copper Halo Eyeshadow Tutorial

Add some Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma to the center of the upper and lower lid. I use a Mac 242 to apply.

Add some of MAC Coppering (shimmer, red-copper) just on the edges of the Shimma Shimma on both lids. I use a pencil brush for this step.

I wanted to emphasize the halo effect even more so I used a brown liner on the outer and inner corners of the waterline and then a nude liner just in the center. I have also curled my lashes and added mascara.

Here's the finish looked with some lashes. I am wearing Velour lashes in Whispie Sweet Nothings.

Orange and Copper Halo Eyeshadow Tutorial

I hope you like this look. I think it's very pretty, especially on blue eyes. If you want something less intense, go for more orange or gold coppers instead of the very red coppers I used today. Please let my know what other tutorials you'd like to see next in the comments below!

Rebecca's Top Five Red Lipsticks

FavoritesRebecca ShoresComment

My Top Five Red Lipsticks

Disclosure: I was sent some of these items (Marc Jacobs Oh!, Miley & Coloured Raine Vanity Raine) but I bought the other lipsticks myself. As always, my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Today I wanted to share my favorite red lipsticks. Who doesn't like a red lip? Since red is a color I reach for rather often, I figured I'd share with you what I consider my top five reds. Also, if you're looking to try out a red lip but don't know where to start, check out my tutorial on caring for your lips and how to apply lipstick!

  1. NARS Cruella

This is a lovely, blue based matte red lipstick. I really like the texture of this NARS Matte Velvet Pencil since it's matte but not quite as dry as Mac Ruby Woo. I wish the pencil was a twist-up instead of one you need to sharpen, but the pencil packaging does make it easy to throw into a handbag.  It's also in the Sephora birthday gift this year so I am sure many of you will be able to try it out. Overall, this is one of my favorite reds. The cool undertones will flatter cool and neutral undertones as well as really pop on those with warmer completions.

  1. Bite Sherry

This Cashmere Lip Cream by Bite is a fun, warm, bright red. I really enjoy the texture which has almost a soft creamy feel, much like the NYX soft matte lip creams, but it has a longer wear time. This is a much bolder red on my fair skin, but with its bright, warm undertones and full opacity this will complement deeper skin tones and those on the warm side, as well.

  1. Marc Jacobs Oh Miley! Le Marc Lip Creme

This is a new one for me but has fast become a favorite. It's a creamy, blue based red. It's the most comfortable to wear of these five since it has a cream finish, instead of a matte. It has a long wear time for a cream, about seven hours. This is a bit lighter shade of red than the others, so it works well for light or fair skin tones and will be very bold on deeper complexions.

  1. Coloured Raine Vanity Raine Liquid Lipstick

This is a liquid-to-matte lipstick that is a balanced red. This is a lipstick where your lips need to be in shape to wear, since it's a liquid-to-matte, but it will stay on your lips until you use an oil remover. This is also a color that will work for a range of undertones, as it is a balanced red. It's neither too blue or too yellow, so if you're unsure what red would be best for you, go for this balanced red.

  1. Mac Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick

This is the first red lipstick I really loved. I had owned a few reds before, but they were never colors I really felt confident wearing. Ruby Woo has strong blue undertones which makes your teeth look very white, and for being such a rich red it still complements fair skin as a statement lip. The texture is very dry, so you will want to wear a primer first and make sure your lips are well hydrated and exfoliated. With such a dry texture you get a long wear time (6-8 hours), so it's worth it.

I hope you all liked hearing my favorite reds. Let me know what other "top lists" you'd like to see by posting down in the comments & also what your favorite red lip is!

-Rebecca

Disclosure: I was sent some of these items (Marc Jacobs Oh! Miley & Coloured Raine Vanity Raine), but I bought the other lipsticks myself. As always, my thoughts and opinions are my own. I curated these lipsticks myself and no one asked me to post about it. Read my full disclosure statement for more information.

Paula's Choice Skincare Review

ReviewRebecca ShoresComment

I've been using these Paula's Choice products for the past two months and will be sharing my thoughts and experience with you all. Paula's Choice is a new brand for me, so to begin I had a consultation over the phone with a Paula's Choice skincare consultant. This was very nice since they carry a lot of products and she was able to help me pick what products would work best for me. The lady I spoke with asked about my skin concerns and what my skin was like and then put together a routine for me. I have combination skin (oily t-zone with normal cheeks and dry patches by nose and eyes) that is also sensitive (I avoid sodium lauryl sulfate and chemical sunblocks) and my concerns are brightening, evening tone and anti-aging. I liked that the consultant suggested products from different categories to fit my unique skin type instead of simply recommending one of their kits that would only address some of my issues. Their products include a little booklet with all the information on when to use what, as well as stickers so you can stick on a "step 2 day" sticker on a product and always know when to use it if you're not a skincare junkie. Now, let's go over the products I've been using and how they're working for me.

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme Swatches

Here's a look at the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Cremes! I received seven reds and I've swatched them so you can find your perfect red. I have a Youtube video up with more of my thoughts as well as lip swatches if you want to check that out as well.

Here are all the lipsticks together to compare: Miss Scarlet, Rei of Light, Core Cora, Blow, Goddess, Je T'aime and Oh Miley.

Here are the lip swatches of the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Cremes:

Le Marc Lip Creme in Oh Miley A beautiful blue based red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Je T'Aime A dusty pale rose red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Goddess. A bright balanced red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Blow. A deep blue based red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Core Cora. A light coraly peach red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Rei of Light. A tomato-brick warm red with a creamy finish.

Le Marc Lip Creme in Miss Scarlet. A deep rusty warm red with a creamy finish.

Those are all my swatches of the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Cremes! So far I've really enjoyed using these, my favorites being Oh Miley, Je T'Aime and Blow since I find the blue based reds to be more flattering on my skin tone. I do like that they created a variety of color depth and undertones so that there's a nice range of reds for all skin tones and comfort levels. Carroussel Lashes Iris Review

ReviewRebecca Shores2 Comments

Carroussel Lashes Iris Review

Hey guys! I'm going to be posting more often here on my blog and figured a good place to start would be reviews. I know in the past I've done reviews of collections which can end up being quite long, while some of  you may only be interested in one part or product. So, I am going to begin doing "mini" reviews, as well. For my first in-depth, single item review I am going to tell you about one of my favorite lash styles, Iris  by Carroussel Lashes. The Carroussel Lashes in Iris have become one of my favorite and I am so glad Carroussel Lashes reached out to me to let me try their lashes, since they were a brand I wasn't familiar with. Check out the photos and then read my thoughts!

Carroussel Lashes Iris

Style: 10/10 This is a natural style of lash that looks like you might have been born with long beautiful lashes. They are black mink hairs that flair slightly at the outer corners. These lashes would be flattering on almost all eye shapes and are subtle enough for use anytime.

Longevity: 9/10 I have worn the same pair of Iris lashes longer than I probably should. I have gotten 40+ uses with up to 35 uses in great condition. I have found that many of the more subtle lashes do not last long, but these are just now getting to the point where I need to toss them. I am very impressed with how well they have held up.

Price: 9/10 18.90 € ($20.93 USD) This is a very fair price for the quality of the lash. Mink lashes are usually $20-45+ so these are on the low end of the lashes I've tried.

Packaging: 8.5/10 All Carroussel lashes come in small cardboard boxes (pictured above) with Carroussel Lashes written across the top and the lash name on the side. It's pretty, but it does get scuffed up if they are thrown in a makeup bag. (I usually took these along when I traveled.) Inside the box is a plastic piece for the lashes. Overall, pretty typical packaging style for high end lashes.

Comfort:8.5/10 Since these lashes aren't very dense and are paired with a thin band, they are quite comfortable. You do need to be sure to cut them to fit your eyes, however, since if they are too long the inner corner can feel "pokey".  After a few wears they are pretty much unnoticeable.

Repurchase: Yes, I think these lashes are a great in both style, quality and price so I would repurchase.

I hope you enjoyed this one product review. Let me know what you think about shorter reviews. Do you like them or would you rather get a lot of information at once? Comment below!

Disclosure: These lashes were sent to me, but as always, my thoughts are honest and my own.

Basic Matte Smokey Eyeshadow Tutorial

Basic Matte Smokey Eyeshadow Tutorial

Here is a pretty basic matte smokey eyeshadow tutorial using one palette, the Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Pallette by Paula's Choice. This is an easy look to do, it just takes some layering of shadows and a lot of blending. Follow along if you'd like to see how I achieved this look!

Start out by priming your eyes and adding a base shadow. I am using NARS Smudge Proof Primer and Creme (matte, warm cream) from the Paula's Choice Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette, which we'll be using this throughout the tutorial. Apply both the base shadow and the primer from lash line to brow bone. I use my finger to apply primer and a Sigma E50 Large Fluff for the base shadow.  I have already done my brows,  which you can see how I do those by clicking here.

Now were going to start the smokey part. Smokey eyes are pretty simple, you just want to layer and diffuse two or more colors with the deepest color on the lash line. Grab a blending brush and a light brown shadow and we'll get started. I am using Cafe Au Lait (matte, neutral light brown) and a Sigma E25  and blending from the lash line upwards towards the brow bone.

Take a pencil brush and run that same color under the lower lash line and blend.

Now I am using Gunmetal Grey (matte, medium neutral grey) with a Sigma E25 applied in small circular motions starting at the lash line.

Clean off your blending brush or grab a clean one and just blend. Smokey eyes require lots and lots of blending.

You want something like this, a pretty smooth transition.

Take Gunmetal Grey and run that along the lower lash line.

Now apply Cafe Au Lait all over a second time. Layer then blend, layer then blend is pretty much how this goes.

Add a layer of the Gunmetal Grey & I am again using a Sigma E25 for this. At this point you can stop, add mascara and call it a day if you want a lighter smokey eye.

If you want something darker, then follow along. Now add Onyx (matte, soft black) with a pencil brush to the lash line and a touch on the lower lash line.

Blend it out with a Sigma E25. If the black isn't blending nicely you can take a bit of whatever grey you're using on your brush to help diffuse the color.

At this point, take a look at your eyes to see if there's anywhere that needs more blending and take a clean brush and blend it out.

Here I've lined my water line and tight line in black using the Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Black Velvet. Using the brush in the Nude Mattes palette I used Pink Sugar (satin, light pink-champagne) to highlight the brow and inner corner.

Curl your lashes and add some black mascara.

I finished the look off with some lashes! I am wearing Velour lashes in Whispie Me Away.

I hope you liked this basic matte smokey eyeshadow tutorial and found it easy to follow! Let me know what other "one palette" tutorials you'd like to see in upcoming tutorials in the comments below.
